The Kidney Auxiliary of Puget Sound (KAPS) is a nonprofit organization led and managed by volunteers from the community. The organization develops and coordinates fundraising activities to benefit Puget Sound Kidney Centers and the patients they serve. Proceeds from their efforts are targeted to assist with the emergent needs of patients who are facing financial challenges.

KAPS support helps patients by:

  • Providing every new patient with a canvas comfort bag, a blanket and headphones
  • Providing emergency grants to patients in financial crisis to help with basic needs like, medication, heating bills, dental work, transportation and rent assistance
  • Giving a small holiday gift card to patients to provide a little extra support during the holidays

Our Mission & History

Mission

To encourage philanthropic support to benefit patients of the Puget Sound Kidney Centers.

Our History

In 1981, under the leadership of Joyce Rubatino, the Kidney Auxiliary of Puget Sound (KAPS) was formed in Everett, Washington to support the newly created Puget Sound Kidney Centers, the first dialysis center north of Seattle.

As Puget Sound Kidney Centers grew, KAPS increased its efforts to help more patients in need. Since its inception, KAPS has provided over 2.1 million dollars in support of PSKC patients and they continue this important work today.

Gift of Life Dinner and Auction

The Gift of Life Dinner & Auction is our signature fundraising event benefiting the patients of Puget Sound Kidney Centers. Hosted by the Puget Sound Kidney Centers Foundation in partnership with the Kidney Auxiliary of Puget Sound (KAPS), this elegant evening brings together community members, supporters, and advocates dedicated to improving the lives of those affected by kidney disease.

Guests enjoy an evening of fine dining, inspiring stories, and exciting silent, almost live, and live auctions, with all proceeds supporting critical patient programs and services. Together, we celebrate generosity, compassion, and the collective impact that helps ensure life-sustaining care for patients throughout our region.

Volunteer with Kidney Auxiliary of Puget Sound (KAPS)

Volunteers are the heart of the Kidney Auxiliary of Puget Sound (KAPS). Through the generosity of people like you, KAPS is able to raise critical funds that directly support patients receiving lifesaving dialysis at Puget Sound Kidney Centers.

Whether you can give a few hours or take on a larger role, your time makes a meaningful difference. KAPS volunteers help with fundraising events, community outreach, wreath and auction programs, administrative support, and special projects throughout the year. Every task—large or small—helps ensure patients have access to comfort items, emergency assistance, and programs that improve their quality of life.

Volunteering with KAPS is also a rewarding way to connect with others who care deeply about our kidney community. You’ll meet dedicated, compassionate individuals and see firsthand how your efforts positively impact patients and families across our region.

Join us and be part of something truly meaningful. Your time, talents, and heart can help bring hope and support to those who need it most.
